A piece of skin was removed from the artist button. The piece was grown in a laboratory and sewed together onto a glass model, cast from the artist's face. The Portrait was alive during the first two days of the first exhibition before it was preserved in formaldehyde.
The project was done in collaboration with the University Hospital in Linköping.
